Ex-convict John Wilson first laid European eyes on the Goulburn Downs in
1798, but it would be another 20 years before explorer Hamilton Hume
discovered Lake Bathurst in 1818.
Governor Macquarie explored the country in 1820 and declared it the
Goulburn Plains, in honour of Henry Goulburn, the Secretary of State for
War and Colonies of the time.
We loved your town & friendly people. Well Done! Enjoyed the old
buildings, memorial and museum. The church of St Peter & St Paul was
just beautiful.
