Goulburn Historic Waterworks
Step back in time to the 1880s when Goulburn was one of the first regional centres to supply piped drinking water to its residents. The Goulburn Historic Waterworks has remained intact with a pumphouse and working steam beam engine. It is located in an idyllic setting on the banks of the Wollondilly River.
This unique facility is the only complete, workable, steam powered municipal water supply left in its original location in the Southern Hemisphere. The buildings and engine are of national significance and are now protected by a permanent conservation order.
Open Sundays from 10am to 4pm, and Monday and Tuesdays from 10am to 2pm. Steam engines operational one day each month (see What's On for upcoming steaming dates).
(Please Note that due to essential maintenance work currently being carried out to the boiler, the engines are not currently able to 'steam'.)
The Pumphouse Cafe is open on steaming days 10am-3pm.
A great family outing with picnic areas and playgrounds.
Fishing available in season.
Entry is by donation. All proceeds go toward maintenance of the steam engines, buildings and grounds.
