Patrick Durack (1834-1898) and his family, set out from Goulburn in 1867
overland to SW Queensland, overcoming extraordinary hardships to establish
several large properties, including Galway Downs, Thylungra and Kyabra
stations.
From Thylungra, Durack organised the droving of 7,250 head of breeding
cattle and 200 horses on a 4,828km trek, the longest undertaken by
Australian drovers up to that time.
The Duracks were responsible for opening up vast new areas of Australia.
Patrick and his wife are buried in the Mortis Street Pioneer Cemetery in
Goulburn.
...Everywhere we went we were greeted with friendly smiles and genuine
welcomes. It was refreshing and unexpected. Included in that were the
retailers in Goulburn who were all helpful and friendly. Thank you for a
wonderful weekend we will be back.
